My Annotated Bibliography
A primary level children's book I love is Stephanie's Ponytail by Robert Munsch. This book is a great way to explore the concepts of copycatting, individuality, self-esteem and peer pressure. I was glad to see a young, female character portrayed as a strong character that was confident enough to have her own identity and express her individuality even when her peers were mean spirited and disapproving.
An intermediate level children's book I love is The Trouble with Chickens by Doreen Cronin. This book is a Sunshine State Young Readers Award Book for Grades 3-5. This book is humorous and engaging. It is told in the first person by JJ Tully. The reader is easily able to establish a connection with this character and experience the story from his perspective.
An upper level children's book I love is Riding Freedom by Pam Munoz Ryan. This book is well-written and inspiring. The author’s writing style helps in making connections to the characters. This book explores how true determination, hard work, perseverance and following your heart can lead to the accomplishment of goals and the fulfillment of dreams.
